Well, Kari and Jason , Inc have received their early Christmas Present.
Aero (at least that is her name today) came to Northern Reins last night.
Jason and Kari will own her together.
Kari, Gayle, Jason, plus several UMC Equestrian Students took the trip with Laddie to the Johnson Ranch, and to bring back the new horse.
We had met this big yearling on 11-29-09 when we saw her out in a huge pasture where she and all the other yearling fillies had spent most of the last year just being free and happy.
But last week, Marcy reported that they had been rounded up and brought up to the coral and could be picked up.
They have a set up there where they just can heard horses into a trailer, and after two tries, they had her in.
After what happened before, they were alittle nervous on the way back, especially when the wind really wipped up.
But they finally got home, and backed the trailer up to the overhead door to the riding arena.
Having no halter big enough for her, they just opened the trailer door open and she came out into the arena.
They just kind of hearded her into the stable area and right into a stall.
Considering that she had never been in a horse trailer, never been in a barn or stall, and had hardly ever had a human hand on her in her life, she did remarkably well.
She seemed unfamiliar with chewing grain too and is still sportin' that cocklebur hairstyle.
You might notice in the video, we use the bombardment theory to get horses used to people.
At the Clinton Anderson seminar we went to he said to get your horse used to people, noises and activity, just tie them to a tree at a daycare center. By the time that ambulance drives away, your horse will be used to anything...
Kari reported this morning that they had had her out doing some ground work with her. Jason was working with the stick and string. I guess she just kept putting her head in Jason's chest apparently not to worried about the stick and string.
So...so far so good..we know that not everyday will be this good...there are bound to be challenges with a horse this big and (is wild the word?) maybe untouched is a better word...
The video below is dark cause I didn't want to scare her with flashbulbs just yet
